Save Stargate Atlantis First they take SG-1 and now Atlantis! Atlantis feels like it's just taking on a life of its own. It's been overshadowed by SG-1 for so long, but now that it's out on its own it finally feels like it's becoming a mature show. Save Stargate Atlantis!

French OVNI (UFP) Documentation Archive France became the first country to open its files on UFOs on 3/22/2007 when the national space agency unveiled a website documenting more than 1,600 sightings spanning five decades. Web Sudoku Julie and I decided to pick up a Sudoku book a few weekends ago. I had half heartedly tried a few in the newspaper before, but Julie had never done one before. Well, now Julie is addicted. She's pretty much finished with the book we bought (she skipped the easy puzzles and finished the difficult ones). So she searched online and found this great site for doing the puzzles on the web. They even let you print the puzzles out so she can do them on paper while I work. She's gone Sudoku Nuts!

Save Stargate SG-1 Several weeks ago the Sci-Fi channel announced that it was not going to renew Stargate SG-1 for an 11th season (Stargate Atlantis was renewed for a 4th season). MGM has stated that Sci-Fi cancelling the series does not mean the end of Stargate. They will continue to persue other ways to distribute SG-1, either on another network or other media (like tv mini-series, tv movies, or feature films). Here you can sign a petition to keep Stargate SG-1 alive.

Conning the cons of Nigeria I'm sure you've gotten them before. The relative of a deposed African politician, or a once wealthy African financier, or someone else, has a ton of money and they need your help to get it out of their country. Snakes on a Plane That's right. Snakes on a Plane might sound like a strange title for a movie, but there it is... I'm not sure if this is going to be a good movie or not, but it's definitely making waves across the internet. It's one of the most anticipated movies of 2006 (expected in August) but has had practically no advertising, just word-of-mouth. In my opinion it'll end up being a goofy B movie thriller that'll get a cult following, similar to Peter Jackson's earlier work (think Bad Taste and Dead Alive) or the Evil Dead trilogy. Check out the official site (it's mainly just a link to fan sites) and a few of the fan sites (most of which were around before the official site). This is the biggest internet promotion for a movie since Blair Witch.

Pandora Thanks to Jackie for turning me on to Pandora, a creation of the Music Genome Project. Basically you create your own Internet Radio Station based on the specific artists and songs that you choose. Select a few of your favorite artists and Pandora will create a music stream of similar songs. It's a great way to hear the music you love mixed with some new music that you'll grow to love.

Related

  • George's Americana Recommendations A radio station based on a whole bunch of Americana artists, like Guy Clark, The Beat Farmers, Drive-By Truckers, John Prine, Iris Dement, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Junior Brown and more...
  • GJJ Great Americana Songwriters Another Pandora station I created. This is very similar to the other Americana station, but I tried to limit this to mainly Folk and Americana songwriters, like Woody Guthrie, Joan Baez, Lyle Lovette, Steve Goodman, Tom Russell, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Phil Ochs, Loudon Wainright III, Jim Croce, James Taylor, and more. Not everyone played on this station will be a famous songwriter, but their styles should be similar. There will be less light hearted songs and artists on this list.
  • GJJ Hard Rock Picks I don't only listen to Americana/Folk/Roots/Country, although that's my favorite category. I like to listen to all types of music and hard rock is at pretty much the opposite end of the spectrum from the Americana lists above. This list was based off of music from bands like Dream Theater, Type O Negative, Fear Factory, Sound Garden, System Of A Down, and more. These aren't bands to be listened to lightly.
  • GJJ Rural Humor This station is based on music by groups like Austin Lounge Lizards, The Arrogant Worms, Barenaked Ladies, They Might Be Giants, Hayseed Dixie, and others. This collection should be good music with humorous lyrics.
  • GJJ Americana Eclectic Some more eclectic songs, based on Handsome Family, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, and others.
  • GJJ Rockabilly Radio This station should have a more twangy, rockabilly influence. It was based on bands/artists like BR549, Robbie Fulks, Reverend Horton Heat, Junior Brown, Southern Culture on the Skids, and more.

GeoCaching Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache. There are also Travel Bugs. A Travel Bug is a trackable item that moves from place to place, picking up stories along the way, similar to the BookCrossing idea from last week's feature.

Do you love it when a friend gives you a book to read? It's a free book and you know it'll probably be pretty good. Well, BookCrossing.com is a great way to do all of that and more! BookCrossing members (membership is free) release books into the wild and post messages on the web site so that others can go find them. Each book gets registered on the site and has it's own unique ID number (BCID). Write that number and the bookcrossing url on the cover and when someone finds your book they can make a journal entry on the website. You can track where your books go, who has read them, and what they thought. And you can also find books to read, too! It's a great idae, huh?

So far I've gotten rid of an old washer & dryer and received two fish tanks. I would have had to pay the garbage men to take the appliances and would have had to pay for fishtanks. Bachelor's Grove Cemetery Bachelor's Grove cemetery in Midlothian, Illinois is reportedly the most haunted cemetery in the country. I've visited it a few times and it definitely is a creepy place. Go ahead and take a walk through the woods there, but remember to respect your surroundings. And around this time of year its always best to go during the day. The police tend to patrol extra heavy during the evening to keep vandals away.

Raven's Grin Inn Located in Mount Morris, Illinois, the Raven's Grin Inn is much more than your typical haunted house. The Inn is a real historic building (1870) with a history of actual hauntings. The Inn has been transformed by it's current owner into a grand, multi-level, funhouse type attraction. Tours are provided by the owner and can range anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. The Inn is open all year round (301-350 days a year), but is extremely busy during October.

Julie and I went there two weekends ago and it was definitely interesting. However, we do have a few WARNINGS... IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES: don't go here! Or at least take some heavy duty allergy medication. The house was very dusty, dirty, musty and MOLDY! Julie had a real hard time breathing after we were through. ALSO, I recommend going some time other than October. We were in a group of 15 and the size of the group really took away from the experience. Go sometime when it's not so busy so you can get a much more personal tour.
But if you are in to Haunted Houses, don't miss this one. It's definitely unlike any others.

A9.com Search Engine I just found out about this search engine and I've decided I like it. even better than Google. The search results are from the Google engine, but are supplemented with information from Amazon.com, including images, products and more. And what's more, they offer a À/2% (1.57%) reward on Amazon.com purchases if you actively use A9.com for searches. And get the A9 toolbar for a bunch of cool tools and easy searching from your IE tool bar.

Radio@Netscape FREE access to more than 175 stations, including music, news, sports, and local radio. I've been using it for a while (when I'm not listening to KPIG). The quality is excellent, there aren't any pop-up ads, and the selection of music is excellent. Give it a try!
