How can I make my site appear at the top of the Google search results?

I get this question a lot. So instead of writing a new answer to the question every time I get asked, I've decided to write a tutorial, entitled "Search Engine Optimization - Improving Search Engine Rankings: A Quick SEO Primer, By George Jaros". It contains a bunch of techniques for improving your search engine rankings.

Undoubtedly there are a bunch of other methods for boosting your page rank that I don't cover. But the topics should give you enough to get your site ranked fairly well. I've relied on these simple techniques and have had great success with my page ranks. I've seen sites climb from 50th to 2nd in Google search results simply by applying the techniques here. Sites may not be #1, but they do very well and get the exposure they deserve. If you are still looking for more ways to improve your page rank, do a Google search. You'll find hundreds of pages, tips, forums, and discussions.

Wednesday, May 30, 2007 - Quick Update

In the past two weeks Michael has started crawling. Real, actual crawling, not his crazy inchworm scooting. He's on the move and nothing is safe (as the dogs have discovered first hand). Hank loves it, it's hard to keep Mike and Hank apart - Hank loves licking Mike and Mike likes trying to catch Hank's tongue. But Moxie is very upset. She'll be lying on the floor minding her own business and Mike will suddenly be on top of her climbing and grabbing at her tail, ears, or whatever else is within reach.

And Mike has discovered windows, too. He loves pulling up on the window sills. He walks back and forth along the windows looking at everything outside. And windows aren't the only thing he pulls up on. Anything taller than him is fair game for climbing.

He loves crawling all around my office, looking over the baby gate at the doorway, looking out the windows, and climbing on my legs under the desk. It's great that he can occupy himself while I work now. I can keep an eye on him but still get work done and now Julie can actually get stuff done around the house, too.

Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - New Blog Feature

Just a quick posting... I added a new Blog feature yesterday and today. I can now categorize my blog postings. So if you just want to see entries I made about Development and Coding, you can go directly there. I also added code so that categories with lots of entries (like Michael Leon Updates) will display only 5 entries at a time. You can use Next and Previous links to see other entries. To see other categories check out the menu panel to the right.

Wednesday, May 16, 2007 - Funny Moxie...

Michael has decided that Moxie is funny. In the last few days he's been laughing at her all the time. When he's in his Around We Go he tries to chase her and laughs as she runs away. And last night he was cracking up at her playing fetch. We got that on video. It's a bit grainy and dark because the lighting wasn't too good, but the sound is what is important.

On another note, Mike's been standing a whole lot. He's been pulling himself into a standing position on pretty much anything he can reach, which is a lot these days.

He's still not really crawling but he's been very mobile. He leans forward until he is on his hands and knees, pulls his knees forward and then sits again, moving himself 6" to a foot forward. He'll repeat the motion until he gets where he wants to go, which is usually toward the dogs, his toys, or something dangerous like the fireplace mantel. He looks kind of like a confused inchworm as he goes.

The other day he made it across the front room to the cabinet where Julie had stored all his toys. Needless to say, within a few minutes they weren't stored in there any more. He pulled everything out and then proceeded to stand up and try to climb into the cabinet.

I don't think it'll be too long before he's walking. You can see that he really wants to and he's working on getting the balancing part down. He'll be a toddler before we know it.
