Wednesday, August 30, 2006 - Quick Update

The month is almost over and I've only posted two times. This month has been pretty busy, so I guess I should post something...

Julie is doing fine with the baby. It's moving around a lot. Two weeks ago I was able to hear the baby's heartbeat! I counted out 132 beats per minute. It's pretty amazing to think that a life is growing inside her. She's started school again and that's been really exhausting her, but she's glad to be back, even if it's only for a few weeks till the baby is born.

Most of our time this past month has been spent frantically trying to finish the projects around the house before the baby is born. We finally finished the "dogs'" room - it's cleaned, painted, and set up as Julie's new sewing room. We've also started on the master bathroom (it really needs a coat of paint). And, finally, we've begun working on the baby's room. We pulled up the rug (that we put down just last year) because we found some beautiful wood parquet flooring for only $0.82 a square foot. So this weekend we'll be painting and putting in the flooring. The biggest project we finished is the kitchen. It's been over a year working on that, but the cabinet doors are all painted and re-hung and all the trim is finished. It really looks great. I'll post some before/after pictures soon.

And on my web site I've made a few small updates. I've kept my parents' vacation photo album updated. I also updated the Agents page so that I can easily see referrals and guestbook abuses for the past day (the Security Code is still working great). And my latest update is a notice if you find my site via a Search Engine that your keywords may be on my News Feeds page.

So that's about it. I'll post some pictures of the house as soon as the last few projects are finished. Have a great last day of August!

Friday, August 4, 2006 - parseInt() Revisited

Back on June 29th I posted an entry about a JavaScript bug when using the parseInt() method to get the value of strings "08" and "09". (See JavaScript parseInt() Bug) Since I poosted that bug I've found an interesting solution to the problem. It seems that the bug is related to JavaScript counting in Base 8 rather than Base 10. So in the parseInt() method you can force it to use Base 10: parseInt('08',10) So give this code a try and see what it does:

<script language="Javascript">
function examplenumbers(){

var correct = parseInt('07', 10); var wrong = parseInt('07'); alert('the value of seven is ' + correct + ' not ' + wrong );

correct = parseInt('08', 10); wrong = parseInt('08'); alert('the value of eight is ' + correct + ' not ' + wrong );

correct = parseInt('09', 10); wrong = parseInt('09'); alert('the value of nine is ' + correct + ' not ' + wrong );

correct = parseInt('10', 10); wrong = parseInt('10'); alert('the value of ten is ' + correct + ' not ' + wrong ); } </SCRIPT>

<a href="javascript: examplenumbers();void(0);">click me</a>

And here is is in action: click me

Tuesday, August 1, 2006 - Family Photos

I've created a few more photo galleries over the past few days. They include pictures of my new neice and god daughter Ava Marian (who is asolutely adorable), my Mom & Dad's 2006 Summer Vacation, and a collection of Lightning Photographs that I've taken and will be adding to.
